General osteopathic treatment

The science of osteopathy is a form of treatment performed only with the hands. The aim is to treat the person as a whole and not just diseases or symptoms.

Therefore, I study all the tissues of the body in their interdependence and interaction. During osteopathic treatment I focus on palpating the mobility of tissue structures, bones and organs, and restoring it in case of loss. This is essential for the health and well-being of a well-functioning body. By releasing movement restrictions, the self-healing powers in the organism can be reactivated for the body to use its ability to regenerate itself.

Paediatric osteopathy

The treatment of children, from birth through to puberty, requires a specific training, which specialises in the normal neurological, sensory and emotional development of a child (for example, drinking, swallowing, physiological movement patterns, balance).

The training is completed outside the five-year course of general osteopathy and, in addition to the above-mentioned content, includes, among other things, problems that may arise during pregnancy and birth. The latter is of particular importance, as complications during birth can lead to various issues. For an undisturbed motor and sensory development of your child, it is beneficial to treat these issues at an early stage.

Osteopathic treatment areas

Due to current legislation, I am not allowed to give you specific indications for osteopathic treatment, nor am I permitted to promise you of a complete cure or a guarantee of alleviation or improvement of the state of illness.

However, osteopathy can be applied in all medical areas which have arisen because of a functional disorder. Such disorders can occur in the following body systems:

  • The musculoskeletal system (bones, muscles, fasciae, tendons, ligaments)
  • Joints of the body (head, jaw, shoulder, elbow, hand, sacrum/pelvis, hip, knee, ankle, …)
  • Internal organs (kidney, liver, intestine, stomach, …)
  • Nervous system and blood vessels

Functional disorders can manifest in the form of:

  • Back pain, neck pain, hip pain, shoulder pain
  • Dizziness, tinnitus, headaches and migraines, temporomandibular joint problems
  • Digestive disorders (not in the case of ulcers and tumours), organ sinking, functional (medically clarified) heart conditions, chronic cystitis (not caused by bacteria), menstrual pain, scarring and adhesions after operations.

In addition, there may be specific symptoms of individual systems due to temporary changes in the body. This would be, for example, during and/or after pregnancy.

In infants, functional disorders can present themselves as follows:

  • Problems with sucking and swallowing.
  • The head always turns in a certain direction, the head is flattened or deformed.
  • The infant cries a lot, is difficult to calm down, has sleeping problems and/or is often overactive.
  • Frequent belching and/or intestinal cramps. The abdomen is tense, defecation is difficult, and/or hiccups occur frequently.
  • The baby holds itself crooked, twists and regularly throws its head back.
  • One hip always stays more flexed compared to the other hip.
  • One leg or an arm is used more often.

This list of examples does not claim to be complete.

If you are unsure whether osteopathic treatment could be useful for you or your child, please consult your GP (general practitioner), your paediatrician, your midwife or me.

Course of osteopathic treatment

The content of my osteopathic treatment is an anamnesis/consultation, diagnosis, treatment, recommendations and documentation.

During the initial treatment, after the anamnesis, a detailed osteopathic whole-body diagnosis is made to detect existing disorders in your body. These assessments are performed manually, i.e., by using my own hands and, if necessary, supported by various tests. The subsequent treatment consists exclusively of external applications of therapy techniques and exercises. Finally, we will discuss the results and the preliminary scope of your treatment will be outlined to you.

What you need for your first appointment

Please bring, if available, all written results on X-ray, MRT, CT or written medical diagnoses from your treating doctor to your first appointment. This way I can familiarise myself with previous diagnoses of your illness and, if necessary, add the results of classical medicine as a supplement to my osteopathic examinations and results. This provides me an overall picture, from the medical history to the current pain sensation, to understand and treat you holistically.

Treatment intervals, duration, and costs of osteopathic treatment

The intervals between treatments range from once a week up to once a month, depending on the existing state of the disease:hehen:

  • Acute (<6 weeks)
  • Subacute (6-12 weeks)
  • Chronic (>12 weeks)
  • Recurrent (repeated symptoms after an interval of at least six months without symptoms).

An osteopathic treatment session lasts between 45–60 minutes.

The costs for a general osteopathic treatment are 88,- Euro.

These are final amounts without VAT (§4 No.14a UStG). Payments can be made contactless with NFC-enabled EC and credit cards, via transaction via Apple Pay and Google Pay or as a conventional card payment with chip & pin.

Billing is based on the fee regulation for alternative practitioners (GebüH).

You have the option to cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your appointment. I reserve the right to charge you a cancellation fee for appointments that are not attended or not cancelled on time without an excuse.

Reimbursement of osteopathic treatments

Osteopathy is a service for which the costs must be borne by the patient.

The costs of osteopathic treatment can be partially reimbursed by various health insurances and by most private insurances or supplementary insurances for natural therapies within the framework of a medical bill.

To be reimbursed by your health insurance, you will often be asked to provide proof of the extent and standard of my osteopathic training. This can be proven by my membership in an association.

I am a member of the Association of Osteopathie Schule Deutschland (VOSD) and I am listed there in the list of therapists.

Patients with health insurance have the possibility to inform themselves about the subsidies of their health insurance for osteopathic treatments under the following link: www.osteokompass.de. No responsibility can be taken for any changes in your health insurance.

Please contact your health insurance company before your first osteopathic treatment to find out the current subsidy rate and whether a medical certificate is required
